What worried the director, Bigas
Luna, and me was that someone watching the film might think the
leading characters were psychopaths or sick or exceptional beings.
We agreed on trying to reinforce anything that would help make the
relationships between the characters more understandable and to
avoid keeping such a relationship at a level that might make people
assume this is a story that never happened. This is a story that
takes place in Madrid, at a specific time, in a country where
certain conditioning factors are present.
