SECOND SKIN. Gerardo Vera (Press-book of the film).

SEGUNDA PIEL

In this film, more than narrating events, I have tried to analyze feelings and contradictions inherent in human beings. There are feelings for which we are ready and others we are never ready to cope with. We are poorly equipped mentally for intimate relationships. Actually, it's worse than that; I think we are poorly equipped to handle things when our relationships fall apart, when we are disappointed in love. No matter how much you realize things aren't working out, when that happens, everything becomes disrupted; the pulse, the vital rhythm of our lives is altered. I was very much interested in delving into that frustration, which is many times stronger than a physical disease. When one has an illness, he fights against it, but when one is heartbroken, not only does the person not fight against it but actually seems to take pleasure in constantly racking his brains over it.

[...] Together with Ángeles González I have created a character, but it is the actor that brings life and color to that character. In the film, the actors have conferred on the character a fundamental truth; how to make a relationship between two men credible. The text, the script, cannot accomplish that. It is the actors who use the tools, skills and personal bonds so that the viewers actually see them on the screen as a couple. That can't be created as if it were an adventure of Captain Blas (the famous Spanish seaman) in which he, in heroic fashion, takes a leap, pulls out his sword and slices off someone's head. Here, the actor has to subtly pull some intimate ropes to work and perform successfully.
