The offer to film "La pasión turca"
(Turkish Passion) enabled me to discover that this movie was also
in keeping with my contention: "We all want to be someone else". To
carry on searching in that direction, we have the leading
character, Desideria Oliván, a woman who wants to be somebody else.
She doesn't now that, but she will end up being a totally different
woman. She travels to Istanbul and, from the very moment that a man
who knows nothing of her world, touches her, she realizes she wants
to be another woman. She doesn't like being the way she is.
Emotionally, this is a 180º turn-around in her gray, provincial,
idle life. In the case of most women, this is a love story
stretched to the limit. Or as Ana Belén, who plays Desideria, says:
"It is a story about love and emotional rage" [...]
I have focused in the story of a
woman who, at a given moment, discovers that she carries another
being inside her, a being she wishes had never come out and but has
done so in a violent emotional way [...] There is also an
additional subject in the film: the meeting in bed of two cultures,
as I have pointed out before in some occasion. But that is just one
background aspect of the movie.
