LA LENGUA ASESINA

The story is based on ideas and concepts that are present in my previous work, personal anecdotes, funny little ways of mine, fixations and obsessions... I recall a video-clip that was made for the Fangoria Group in which some of the graphic proposals that later materialized in the film "La lengua asesina" (Killer Tongue) cropped up: the video-clip was some sort of videogame in which some poodles shot their murderous tongues up towards God. In the storyline, Jesus Christ had to rescue Alaska and Nacho Canut from hell. In the beginning, in fact, Alaska herself was going to be the female leading character and the film budget was one typical of a B-movie. Subsequently, as new investors and associated production companies gradually became involved, "La lengua asesina" turned into what it is today: an Anglo-Spanish super-coproduction of international scope [...]

Apparently, the tongue is some sort of alien monster that kills and eats many people but it also has a lot of personality. In its own way, it is a charming character, with a very special sense of humor and personal magnetism [...]

The humor of "La lengua asesina" isn't local, it is universal. It is based on one-dimensional stereotypes and characters. Rather than fleeing from stereotypes and one-dimensionality I have in fact sharpened them. My film doesn't seek to waste time explaining the motives of the characters. I think that stereotyping is healthy. The casting was done bearing these criteria in mind: from the beginning, the spectator can recognize who is who [...]
